People want better change for their communities, but how is that done? One way is through popular assembly, a strategy with roots in ancient Rome and Greece. This is when regular people came together to make big decisions collectively instead of relying on their kings and emperors. Fast-forward to modern times and we call this action a PMA or People's Movement Assembly. This first took place in Atlanta in 2007 where community organizers, activists, and regular folks came together and found shared problems, built coalitions, and made action plans. These aren't just rallies, these are decision making spaces!

Ever since Atlanta's City Council ignored its citizens' 116,000 signature petition about the Stop Cop City Referendum more PMAs were made. The first in March 2025 had the public define what public safety meant to them. Another in Sept 2025 and Mar 2026 continued to address this along with other issues like rising utilities, data centers, sustainable house, ICE, and mutual aid to name a few. Each PMA gives people a chance to learn more about issues and how they can build power while celebrating the meaning of community.

Each PMA grows bigger than the last so we know folks are eager for better change. It's our goal to hold spaces where we can help one another not only learn but also take effective action.
